Beginnings Act 1: BEFORE Creation

If we really want to understand what makes the ocean waves and starry galaxies tick, it only makes sense for us to go back to when it all started in the first place.

When there was NOTHING on this planet (and no planets to begin with), what exactly was there? And why exactly did creation come into existence?

As it turns out, the Scriptures don’t leave us completely in the dark about this time. If we look in various places sprinkled throughout the Old and New Testaments, we find out that a perfect and beautiful fellowship existed before creation even began.

Proverbs 8 speaks the words of Jesus:

“The Lord formed Me from the beginning. Before the mountains were formed, before the hills, I was born—before He had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil. I was there when He set the limits of the seas so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when He marked off the earth’s foundations, I was the architect at His side. I was His constant delight, rejoicing always in His presence. And how happy I was with the world He created; how I rejoiced with the human family!” (v 22, 24, 29-31 NLT)

So here we find there was LOVE, REJOICING, and CREATIVITY! Jesus Himself later tells us that there was GLORY and LOVE.

“Now Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the GLORY which I had with You before the world was.” (John 17:5 NASB)

“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am and to see my GLORY, the glory you have given me because you LOVED Me before the creation of the world.” (John 17:24 NIV)

John writes to us that there was also UNITY and LIFE.

“The Only begotten God was in the bosom of the Father” (1:18 NASB).

“In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was WITH God and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God….In Him was LIFE and the life was the light of men.” (1:1-2,4 NASB)

And when Jesus was here on earth, He tells us that there was UNITY and perfect DEPENDENCE.

“The Father and I are ONE” (John 10:30 NLT)

“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by Himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does.  For the Father loves the Son and shows him everything He is doing.” (John 5:19-20)

The Holy Spirit was also part of this unity. Jesus calls him “the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father.” (John 15:26 NASB)

The Three of them are so united in fact, that they are actually ONE.

So then, if we go through and collect all of these traits that we’ve gathered about this before-time-fellowship, we find that all of creation sprang forth from a perfect fellowship characterized by UNITY, LOVE, CREATIVITY, LIFE, DEPENDENCE, REJOICING and GLORY! (And probably much more…)

As we move forward into time, anything this Fellowship creates will express these characteristics.

Since God Himself is an interconnected Fellowship, He (They) will make an interconnected creation. Since God Himself is full of glory, His (Their) creation will be GRAND, MAGNIFICENT, and full of creativity!

We also find that the Lord’s purpose in creating us was to draw US into His perfect fellowship! (John 17:22-24)

Don’t believe Proverbs 8 speaks of Jesus ( Jesus would have to be female for that to work ) . But the other verses do look great.

Jesus is the amazing creator of all things! Awesome saviour.

Thanks for your input, Mart…I enjoy hearing thoughts. Who do you believe the passage refers to?
I believe it is a reference to Christ because:
      1) The speaker is a person who was born from the Father and existed before time (wisdom as a characteristic could not have thoughts or feelings as a person could). As far as I know, only the members of the Trinity existed before creation.
      2) The scriptures elsewhere say that Christ is wisdom. 1 Cor 1:30 says “God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself.”
      3) While I agree with you that Christ came to earth as a man, He also is the one who created both male and female…Therefore all male and female characteristics are originally derived from Him. In Gal 3:28 it says “there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Great article on the nature of the God-Head! Looking forward to reading more. This is a great summary of who God is: UNITY, LOVE, CREATIVITY, LIFE, DEPENDENCE, REJOICING and GLORY.

    Welcome to blogging!

Wonderful what you are writing about. My journey is also similar in nature. I am listening to a cd called “The Story” and as I listen to each song I plan to paint my way through the OT and NT. This is an exciting year for both of us. Also just read Unlocking the Heart of an Artist. (In the kingdom) . Love how God brings it all in.

Can’t wait for the second part of this. An amazing job you did, cause I have never noticed there was so much before creation the way you did. It’s so great to be part of this interconnected God and creation.
    🙂

Wonderful I saw the trinity in a whole new light “The Three of them are so united in fact, that they are actually one” Tom (my hubby) and I are two separate entities yet there are times when we are so close it feels as though we are one and know what the other is feeling and experiencing without words and I saw the trinity in this light… so bonded in love and experience and trust that they know without words, they are bonded and yet separate, yet never apart just as I experience with all the beautiful saints I met over there…though apart I do not feel separated from you and know that if you all came to call tomorrow it would be as though we had never parted
