“I can write only hints to incite good wanderers to come to the feast…..
The crystal masses burn with love untold;
The glacier-table spreads a royal feast.” — John Muir
I have a video to share, but I thought I would start by telling you a bit about it:
A few years ago I was sauntering through the streets of Manhattan at night and noticed something. As I often do when walking, I glanced up at the night sky for a moment in expectancy…But the glare of the streetlights and towering skyscrapers bluntly reminded me that I would not be seeing any cosmic shows tonight.
This walk reminded me of the contrast of the fallen world we live in today. Its loud, busy, fearful, and enticing messages constantly clamor for our attention….doing anything to crowd out the deep, satisfying presence of the Lord which is constantly available to us.
But even though the lies and distractions may seem overwhelming at times, OUR SOLID TRUTH STILL STANDS UNCHANGED:
“You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4
The One who lives within us has given us eyes to see and ears to hear Him, no matter how loud the luring sounds of this fallen world may be. And the voice He uses is soft and gentle.
He will not force Himself on us, but in any given day He may express Himself to us in countless unimaginable ways if we will look and listen.
These sightings of our Lord arrive when we are still. And stillness doesn’t mean sitting in one place. It is a stillness of heart which we may have throughout any given day….an expectancy and restful seeking of His voice no matter what we may be doing.
And though the Enemy may try His best, he cannot hide our Lord and King from us who have eyes to see Him.
The below video is one that I made to remind us of exactly this. Just before I made it I was on a 6-week visit to Costa Rica, one of the most beautiful and diverse countries on the planet…But the people I was traveling with hardly noticed. They were entirely distracted by other things. And so it is just that easy for any of us (including myself!) to become engulfed in distractions and miss the voice or the beauty of the Lord, even when it is right in front of us.
This worship video is an invitation to see what we may notice if our hearts our still. If you have a moment, I encourage you to spend this quiet 15 minute stretch as a time to see and take in what the Lord has made for us to enjoy.
If you’d like to know where any of these photos were taken, feel free to comment or send me a message….Lots of these places deserve a visit!
